No me atrevo a dar una guía de lugares para visitar, porque me dejaría muchísimos rincones maravillosos sin mencionar. Cada uno encontrara una Venecia distinta, y cada uno hará su propia guía. Solo son unos datos para ayudar a llegar a esos rincones y perderte por otros tantos. (Agosto 2005):
TRANSPORTE
Desde el aeropuerto: Autobús nº 5. Horarios:
El importe del billete es de 2 euros, unos 25 min. el trayecto. El billete se compra en una máquina expendedora en la misma parada del aeropuerto. Te deja en la piazzale Roma. Hacia el aeropuerto (anden A): el billete se compra en las taquillas que hay en la misma plaza.
El Alilaguna, diez euros y una hora de recorrido, te deja en la piazza San Marco (tiene más paradas, consultar). Hay un shuttle gratuito hasta la dársena para tomarlo.
Taxis acuáticos.
Vaporetto: Existen billetes para 90 min., de ida y vuelta, de 24 horas (10,50 euros) y de 72 horas (22 euros). Existen unas taquillas enfrente de la estación de tren Santa Lucia (Ferrovia). No hay muchos revisores para pedir el billete. Pero si te pillan sin él son 30 euros de multa. Existen varias líneas. Muchas de ellas recorren el gran canal. Varían el nº de paradas. El vaporetto nº 1 es el que hace mas paradas, la ventaja es que puedes ver con más detenimiento los palacios del gran canal, el inconveniente es que tardas mas en hacer el recorrido. Las paradas las veras en unas plataformas amarillas a los lados del gran canal, hay varias, a la entrada del muelle veras el nº del vaporetto y la dirección. En algunas también te indican el tiempo de espera. Una misma línea tiene dos plataformas en cada parada, según sea la dirección que lleve. Hay servicio nocturno. La mejor vista la tienes en las butacas que hay delante del barco, o en la parte de atrás (en el exterior), aunque suelen estar siempre llenas.
Il traghetti: Góndolas para cruzar el canal de un lado a otro. Los puntos para cruzar el gran canal están indicados en las calles con flechas "Il traguetti". El trayecto son 0,50 euros. Te cruzan en un par de minutos, pero al menos montas en góndola, y es infinitamente mas barato que un paseo (3 personas 60 euros, pero se puede regatear, el precio es variable, si quieres con gondolero que cante, va con suplemento). Esto resulta cómodo porque hay muy pocos puentes que crucen el gran canal.
A pie: Es la mejor manera de conocer la isla. Las distancias son pequeñas. Con un buen mapa puedes llegar a cualquier parte. El problema es que es tan intrincado, y hay tantos canales que si no tomas la dirección correcta tendrás que volver sobre tus pasos para encontrar el puente que te permita seguir la dirección que te interesa. Pero en esta ciudad no es un problema, perderse aquí es una ventaja, cualquier calle, cualquier rincón merece la pena. Es mejor alejarse de la zona más turística (Rialto y Plaza San Marcos) y caminar tranquilo sin el agobio de la gente, y disfrutar de así de una Venecia tranquila y perdida en el tiempo. La ausencia de coches en esta ciudad la hace única para pasear.
ALOJAMIENTO
El alojamiento es caro. Como referencia: Agli Artisti: Hotel de 2 estrellas.

Hay un albergue en la isla de La Giudecca, a 18 euros la noche, habitación compartida, con desayuno:(), 200 metros vaporetto nº 41 ó nº 82, con servicio nocturno. Muy cerca de la parada en S. Zacarias, al lado de San Marcos. Teniendo en cuenta, que aunque te encuentres en la misma isla de Venecia sueles moverte en vaporetto, es una buena opción para alojarse a un precio mas económico.
Los alojamientos más baratos están en Mestre o Marghera, pero estos distritos están en la península, bastante alejados.
COMIDAS
En general es caro. Tener en cuenta que en algunos restaurante suelen cobrar por cubierto (unos 2 euros por persona) y también un 12% de servicio.
Es habitual dejar el importe exacto porque los camareros tienen por costumbre no devolver el cambio cuando no es muy alta la cantidad. Según te alejas del centro es mas barato. Existen bares que te ofrecen bocadillos de todo tipo y que es una opción mas económica, por 6 euros puedes tomar un bocadillo, una cerveza y un café en una terraza. Para la hora del aperitivo es muy típico tomar unos cicheti (canapés) con spritz (una bebida amarga hecha con vino blanco, aperol y soda). Los helados están estupendos. Un de los cafés mas típicos es el Florian, en la piazza de San Marco, pero es muy caro, como referencia 3 cafés y un agua, en la barra, 13 euros, en la terraza bastante mas. Presume de ser uno de los mas antiguos de Europa, y aunque no tomes nada merece la pena entrar y ver sus saloncitos. También sirven un cóctel típico de Venecia a base de champán y zumo de melocotón.
VISITAS
Toda la isla.
Vistas: la mas conocida es desde el campanile en la piazza de San Marco (6 euros), también se recomienda desde el campanile de San Giorgio Maggiore (se encuentra cerrado por reformas, sin fecha prevista de apertura), en una islita situada frente a San Marcos.
Horarios: muchas iglesias se pueden visitar sin pagar entrada, pero tienen restringida la entrada en horarios de culto. La Basílica de San Marco, imprescindible, el acceso es gratuito, pero para determinadas salas hay que pagar. El horario de cierre es a las 17,00 y hay unas colas inmensas para entrar. Para el Palacio Ducal hay que sacar un billete combinado que te permite visitar otras iglesias y museos (11,50 euros).
Si vas pocos días es imposible ver todo, selecciona tres o cuatro cosas que te interesen y a partir de ahí disfruta de los que te vayas encontrando en el camino.
Puedes recorrer el mercado de la Pesccherie, desde el puente de Rialto, cierra los domingos. Además de los típicos puestos de máscaras y cristal de Murano, encuentras vendedores de fruta (te la venden pelada y troceada) y también una lonja donde se vende pescado fresco.
VARIOS
En la oficina de información de turismo de la misma estación de tren (Santa Lucia) no nos facilitaron mapas gratis (2,5 euros mapa y guía), hay otra en la plaza de San Marcos. La asociación de hostelería edita uno que te lo dan gratuitamente en algunos comercios o alojamientos.
Si te gusta la música clásica es fácil encontrar conciertos en algunas iglesias, sobre todo de Vivaldi. También hay locales con música en vivo (jazz, opera, piano-bar...). En general no hay mucha vida nocturna.
Compras: máscaras y cristal de Murano. Según te alejes del centro mejoran los precios. Ejemplo: en el barrio de Cannaregio, cerca del ghetto judío, encontramos máscaras por 5 euros, cuando el precio habitual en otros barrios era de 18 euros.
Aseos públicos: 1 euro. Te puedes colar en algún restaurante, no siempre te dejan. Es curioso el tamaño del inodoro, es muy bajo, parecen para pitufos.
Hay carteles que te indican rutas, sobre todo a San Marcos, Rialto, piazzale de Roma y Ferrovia, a veces es mejor dar un rodeo que seguir estas indicaciones, ya que las calles son muy estrechas y están atestadas de turistas. Solo hay que tener en cuenta los puentes para cruzar los canales (rios).
